Cloverfield

September 3, 2009

Last night I finally got the chance to watch Cloverfield. I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about it, so I figured I would give it a try.

I’m rarely at a loss of words for a movie. For the most part, I enjoyed watching it. I was impressed by the unique “mockumentary” style that you don’t see too often,  but I’m  just not sure how I feel about J.J. Abram’s (Star Trek, Lost, Fringe) thriller that I find reminiscent of Blair Witch Project.

If you have seen Cloverfield, please participate in my poll below. Perhaps your opinion can help form mine. Don’t be afraid to elaborate on your opinion in a comment!

Multifarious Musings III

September 1, 2009
  1. Three posts in three days. I’m doin’ good.
  2. The Mighty Mazda is squeaky clean after a nice bath!
  3. Angela Lansbury is on my “growing” list. I watched Beauty and the Beast the other day and was reminded of how well she did as the teapot. She played an excellent Mrs. Lovett on Broadway (although that’s debatable on some aspects) and sometimes I’ll watch reruns of Murder, She Wrote with my Mom.
  4. I’m going to stop carrying my phone in my pocket due to the risk of radiation. I’d rather not have cancer when I’m 35 or 40. I’m sure my principal would love to hear this.
  5. This starts tomorrow.
  6. I’ll be firing up the printing presses again at the SC Trojan Tribune next week for my Senior project. This time we’ve got a whopping $250 in the budget, rather than zero.
  7. Though I may or may not agree with him on recent issues (I won’t disclose that information) I have a lot of respect for this guy.

And now I’m off to the couch to relax with my good pal, Layla.

Mulder & Scully Cameo on Fringe

August 31, 2009

Ah yes. Rumour has it that good ol’ Agents Mulder and Scully from The X-Files are to make a cameo appearance on the season 2 premiere of Fox’s Fringe.

What’s important to realize is that unfortunately Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, the actors that portray these characters, are not the ones making the appearance. Rather, it’s their characters. (Trust me… I emailed the official Gillian Anderson website to see if their was any truth to the claim that she and Duchovny would make an appearance. There isn’t. My geekiness emerges…)

Fox reported that there will be two “mentions” of Mulder and Scully during the episode, one coming from John Nobel’s character, Walter Bishop. The other is unknown at this point.

I must admit to being a tiny bit excited for the second season of Fringe. I was certainly less than overwhelmed by the first few episodes last season but it got better as the series progressed. One thing that did manage to tick me off was the extremely similar plot lines. Gee… where have I seen this story before? Oh yeah! *whistles spooky X-Files theme*

Seriously, though. The first few episodes were direct rip-offs of old X-Files episodes. J.J. Abrams, you’ve got great vision and all, but please get some new material. Don’t continue to do that in season 2 or else it will make you look bad.

Anyway, I leave you with a small Showtime clip called “Hangin’ with David Duchovny”. Because why wouldn’t I?

Season 2 of Fringe airs September 17 at 9/8c on Fox.
